History of ENXSuite

The ENXSuite concept was conceived over a decade ago in the mid-1990’s as the brainchild of Michael Meehan during his undergraduate work in Environmental Studies. His research on the monetization of environmental assets provided many of the seminal concepts underlying ENXSuite’s market-leading technology. It was thought that without proper regulation and management, carbon markets and offsets (then only a theory) – would simply provide companies with a “license to pollute” with no real incentives to reduce. A software engineer by trade, Michael thought differently – if you could use technology to show companies that it is financially beneficial to reduce your impact on the environment through carbon and energy reductions, then all parties win – the customer, the technology, and the environment.

Michael began building the building blocks of what would become the ENXSuite Performance Management Platform, an industry first, initially by designing a software platform that would give companies an efficient tool to manage and minimize the consequences of pollution in an era that would soon produce the Kyoto Accord, CRC, and the global carbon and energy markets we see today. Not only did Michael create a new company but a new market segment “On –Demand Energy Management” leveraging advances and economies of scale in SaaS and Cloud Computing.

Initially focused on carbon markets, ENXSuite received Series A venture funding by NGEN Partners in 2008. Today, with offices in Canada, USA, and Europe, ENXSuite has significantly expanded beyond its initial carbon focus and provides energy management solutions managing thousands of facilities. Because the business had rapidly expanded from carbon to energy performance management on a much broader scale than initially conceived, Carbonetworks changed its name to ENXSuite in May 2010. Also in May 2010, ENXSuite expanded its management team through the addition of industry veteran Beatriz Infante to continue the company’s rapid global expansion.

ENXSuite has helped companies all over the world manage and reduce their impact on the environment. Hundreds of companies in over 40 countries have joined the ENXSuite platform, the first and largest carbon and energy management platform in the world.

Founded as Carbonetworks, our business has rapidly expanded to energy performance management on a much broader scale than originally conceived. Our success in multiple industries managing many types of energy sources and projects has driven our re-branding of the company as ENXSuite.
