Help at hand for businesses to manage carbon reporting

Published: Jul 10, 2009 by Energyefficiencynews.com

Earlier this week, technology solution provider Carbonetworks launched new software to help UK businesses manage carbon reporting.

From next year, over 5,000 businesses in the UK will be required to report and reduce energy usage and carbon emissions under the new climate change and energy saving scheme, the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).

The new Carbonetworks’ software aims to help businesses meet the CRC’s stringent emission reporting requirements. But it also provides fully audited reports of carbon and energy usage and enables modelling of different scenarios to help identify areas where reduction is possible and implement strategies to set make cuts.

“Carbonetworks’ software provides the tools needed for CRC compliance, allowing businesses to take advantage of the incentives instead of trying to dodge the penalties at the last minute,” says Michael Meehan, president and CEO of Carbonetworks.

The software automates the process, while providing ways of reducing risk, cost and improving company performance, he adds. It can be customised to the needs of large and small organisations.

Meanwhile, communities can also get help managing their carbon emissions with a new online tool launched this week as part of the Energy Saving Trust Green Communities service.

The online tool was originally developed by Solstice Associates for the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) as a way for groups of individuals to measure their collective carbon emissions as a carbon footprint. Communities using the tool can get recommendations to reduce their energy usage and then track their progress.

The Energy Saving Trust is now making the tool available nationally to community groups across the UK.
