Bringing Carbon Issues to the Boardroom

Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM PDT
Archived Webinar: Watch Now

A "carbon-constrained world" has forced emission management out of the E, H, & S department and into the boardroom-is your company prepared to be competitive in this new and growing market? An information gap exists between executives driven by a carbon reduction mandate and the people on the ground managing the data. This leads to a "wait and see" approach, or worse a reactionary spend on green initiatives that is not in line with the corporate mandate. This presentation will examine ways that companies can go beyond data compliance to gain true visibility of their enterprise GHG data to develop cost-effective and competitive business strategies. From this position organizations can effectively execute and communicate their emission strategy to capitalize on their investment.

Presented by: Stephen Mooney, VP Corporate Development, Carbonetworks Corporation

Speaker: Joseph Kwasnik, Group Head of Climate Change, National Grid. Mr. Kwasnik develops corporate policy, strategy and implementation of initiatives to achieve a low carbon and more energy efficient business.

Managing Climate Change as a Business Issue

Date: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM PST
Archived Webinar: Watch Now

The tide of legislation and regulation across the globe is moving in one direction - that of long-term climate regulation aimed at curbing and reducing GHG emissions. Whether new initiatives are coming under the global auspices of the Kyoto framework or the European Union or from national governments the aim remains the same. It is all about finding ways to sustain growth and maintain profitability of private enterprise in a low-carbon economy. This creates a new competitive landscape for companies across sectors and industries. The bottom line is that most firms will lose or gain in absolute terms - direct and indirect compliance costs, and in relative terms - competitive benchmarking, cost of doing business (cost of capital) and market share.

The main challenge confronting business community is figuring out how to transition from the dominant worldview of managing climate impacts as &qout;ad hoc" or "pet project" initiatives to that of a sustained, long-term low-carbon business strategy that measures carbon in terms of risk and opportunity, both as asset and liability. This presentation will outline key governance issues surrounding organizational carbon management and business value capture based on controlled decision-making at the c-level. Key highlights include:

  • Overview of climate risks and impacts on bottom line (regulatory, legal, financial and reputational)
  • Carbon life cycle, value and value-at-risk
  • Evolution of corporate climate disclosure and moving beyond GHG reporting
  • Latest trends in corporate climate strategies
  • Top 5 take-aways for the audience

Presented by: Dimitri Shanin, Senior Manager - Carbon Management Solutions, Carbonetworks Corporation
